About Rachel
Hi, I'm Rachel! I've been a pediatric speech-language pathologist for twelve years, practicing in a variety of settings from the Southeast to the Pacific Northwest, including home-based services, private clinics, and public schools. I started this practice because I wanted to create a place for children to thrive through child-led, family-centered approaches to speech therapy. My ultimate goal in my work is to empower children with the communication skills they need to build strong and healthy relationships, both now and for the rest of their lives.
I work with children of all ages, from infancy to young adulthood, and I have years of experience providing speech therapy in the areas of Childhood Apraxia of Speech, articulation and phonology, language development, and assistive & augmentative communication (AAC).
As a mom of littles myself, early intervention has a special place in my heart. I was a speech-language pathologist long before I became a parent, so by the time my children began developing their own early communication skills I was deeply tuned in to the tremendously interconnected developmental shifts that allow kids to begin to talk. Observing these early stages in my own children gave me real-life insight into the tiny changes that lead to big growth in early communicators. .
I also absolutely love working with older learners - especially those who haven't made much progress with in previous speech therapy settings and who need a new, research-based approach. For this reason, I've also developed specializations in gestalt language processing and difficult-to-remediate speech sounds.
My true love within the field, however, is Childhood Apraxia of Speech, and I've spent countless hours in professional development to build my knowledge and skills for treating this fairly-rare diagnosis. I use a variety of research-based therapy approaches, such as DTTC and ReST, and was certified in PROMPT in the spring of 2025. My deep dive into the principles of motor learning has helped me to refine my approach to treating other types of childhood speech sound disorders, and regardless of the underlying cause, I love hearing children's speech become more and more clear as we work together.
I fell in love with speech-language pathology early, earning both my undergraduate and graduate degrees in the field. I hold the Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, am a licensed provider in Washington State, and always end up with far more professional development hours than the license requires thanks to my love of ongoing education. I am committed to providing services that are affirming of diversity in all forms from a multiculturally humble place.
In addition to being a speech therapist and small business owner, I'm a distance runner and aspiring (but unskilled, to say the least) gardener. I love living in the Pacific Northwest with my beautiful blended family and treasure our close proximity to the mountains, summer blackberries, and autumn rain. In my free time, I love coffee, curling up with a good book, and spontaneous adventures.
